From Zoe Saldaña to Kieran Culkin to Shogun, see which films, TV shows and actors won big at the 2025 Golden Globe Awards ceremony on Jan. 5.
There’s only one way to know that a new award season has just begun: The 2025 Golden Globes!
The annual ceremony—the first of many to come this year—kicked off Sunday, Jan. 5., where the Hollywood Foreign Press Association honored the year’s most critically acclaimed films, TV shows and actors.
Even before the telecast kicked off from The Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, two veteran stars were already major winners. The annual Cecil B. deMille Award was presented to Viola Davis while Ted Danson received the Carol Burnett Award for Lifetime Achievement in Television.
As for other famous faces who hit the red carpet, Selena Gomez, Ariana Grande, Timothée Chalamet, Zoe Saldaña, Cynthia Erivo and Denzel Washington were all up for major awards for their film performances while television’s buzziest actors, including Quinta Brunson, Ayo Edebiri, Steve Martin and Jeremy Allen White, all had a chance at taking home a trophy as well. Emilia Pérez and The Brutalist led in this year’s Golden Globe film nominations, with Emilia Pérez earning an impressive 10 nominations and The Brutalist securing seven. Plus, hits like Wicked, Dune: Part 2, The Bear, Baby Reindeer and Only Murders in the Building also received recognition in major categories
In the realm of TV, no show was a bigger winner than Shogun, who won Best Television Series Drama while stars Anna Sawai and Hiroyuki Sanada nabbed Lead Actress and Lead Actor in a Drama respectively.
As for the night’s emcee, first-time Globes host Nikki Glaser treated viewers with some light-hearted roasting of the night’s major nominees. But don’t worry, her jabs weren’t nearly as harsh as her roast of Tom Brady.
“I have to be a little softer and more self-deprecating,” Glaser told Entertainment Weekly last month ahead of the show. “Because I’m not as well-known, I can’t just come out swinging. They’ll be like, ‘Who is this lady and why does she think she has a right to talk to us this way?’ I can’t come in with the same annihilating venom as I did at the Tom Brady roast. With status comes the ability to punch harder.”
